I said stand and deliver or the devil he may take ya

A process of surrender, not control

Part One of The Devil Doll was a huge learning experience for myself and my collaborator. One sequence in particular was drawn and re-drawn 3 or 4 times. These two images have been discarded from the version which will be published.

The beginning and the end reach out their hands to each other

Above is a work in progress from The Devil Doll, by Derek VanGieson.

Summer Breaks And Back To Fall

In January of 2009, Derek Van Gieson challenged me to write a story called The Devil Doll. He had a title and a few sketches; he entrusted me to fill in the rest. The first part of this story will be published by Fantagraphics in MOME 17, and it is an honor to be in such good company. The Devil Doll is a project I'm very excited about, and I think it could be contagious. I will be posting images and words here periodically. I hope you will check back from time to time to see what we've been up to. Here is an early drawing by Derek from when the project was just starting to take shape.
